NATURE

Champion Lake
County Road 417, 10.5 miles south of Dayton off FM 1409. 936.336.9786.
800-acre Champion Lake is part of the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge.Activities include fishing, hunting, nature and wildlife viewing, canoeing and kayaking.

Birding
View thousands of species in their major migratory stopovers along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail and surrounding areas. The section of U.S. Highway 90 between Liberty and Dayton is a prime location for spotting the ever-popular Swallow-tailed Kite.

HIKING

Several miles of primitive hiking trails have been developed throughout the city of Liberty. The Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge (936.336.9786) has maps and information on the complete trail system including the Knobby Knees Trailhead and Great Egret's Ridge Trailhead.

Cedar Hill Park

Enjoy fishing, hiking, kayaking and canoeing, birdwatching, picnic facilities and more.

Daniel Park
FM 1008, east of Dayton.
Facilities include a swimming pool, baseball/softball fields, walking and jogging trail, covered pavilion and picnic tables.

Liberty Municipal Park
Cook Road, north Liberty.
The park includes a covered pavilion and basketball court, playground, water park, baseball/softball fields, sand volleyball courts, open areas for soccer and a stocked 3-acre pond (site of the annual KidFish event). A paved walking path winds through the area. Hiking trails can be found nearby (Knobby Knees Trailhead and Great Egret's Ridge Trailhead).
