Monthly Business Luncheon
Noon – Wednesday, May 21 at Immaculate Conception Church—Marian Hall in Liberty. Cost is $8.00— the menu consists of Chicken & Beef Fajitas, Beans, Rice, Guaca-mole, Tea, catered by Los Compadres Mexican Food Restaurant, Dayton. Salvadore, Alfonso and Gerardo Herrera, Owners.

Our guest speaker for this month is Elvin Hayes, known as "the Big E"; overall number one pick of the 1968 NBA draft; three-time All-NBA first team (1975,77,79); 1978 Finals MVP; 12-time NBA all-star (1969-80); named to NBA‘s 50 Greatest Players; 6th leading scorer in NBA history with 27,313 points and 4th leading rebounder with 16,279; member of NBA Hall of Fame. Elvin Hayes is one of the most talented power forwards ever to play the game, using his trademark turnaround jumper and aggressive defense to win a secure place in the NBA record books.

As most people in this area are aware, Elvin is now a partner in Liberty-Dayton GM AutoWorld located at 1100 N. Main St., Liberty, His interests and priorities may be a little different than in his basketball days. Come hear what he has to say at this month‘s Chamber luncheon. Rumor has it he may even bring along an autographed picture or two for some very lucky peo-ple.

Business Expo 2008, held on April 10 at Liberty Center, was a great success with 39 businesses participating, including the Chamber, and three hundred-plus visitors attending the four hour event.

The Liberty County Economic Development Alliance, holding its quarterly meeting in Hull, decided that a countywide strategic economic development plan should be the group's first major priority.

Joan Morse from Liberty & Thicket Magazine is aware of the many requests we receive for souvenirs. Recently she took a picture of the Liberty Depot, and placed the picture on postcards which are now available in the chamber office for the visitors to our area.

Elizabeth Ellis of Accessories, Etc. (and one of our Chamber directors) is in the process of putting together a bridal show for the Liberty County area. The event will be called "Liberty County Bride and Formal Extravaganza".

Liberty County Christian Singles Fellowship will have their first official meeting on Saturday, May 17, 6:30 p.m. at Heights Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The church is located at 2401 Jefferson Drive in Liberty.
